Vidanta Acapulco Review

 Vidanta Acapulco

We stayed at the Grand Mayan in Acapulco through the use of our timeshare with RCI.

Getting to Acapulco can be a little tricky because you don’t have a lot of direct flight options from the United States. You can have a simple layover in the Mexico City airport and then it is a quick flight down to Acapulco. The Mexico City airport is really big and can be a little bit confusing at times so make sure that you have a layover of at least an hour so that you can find your way around.

The grounds of the Vidanta resort are really beautiful and clean with large buildings and really grand entrances. The resort is so large that it even has golf course on it so there are some locations that you may need to take a golf cart to in order to access some of the restaurants and amenities. The Grand Mayan and the Mayan Palace are really close together on this resort so you have easy access to the pools for both resorts and the dining options. We really enjoyed lounging and floating along of the lazy river. If you have kids there is an incredible aqua park that has just been built that the kids would absolutely have a great time at. We were really impressed with the size of the room we had at the Grand Mayan. We stayed in a two bedroom room that had a very large living room area in between each room. We were traveling with friends and it was more than enough space for the four of us to be comfortable in the room.

We went to a grocery store on the way from the airport to the hotel and stocked up on some simple food items that we could eat for breakfast and snacks. We also stocked up on drinks so that we weren’t spending too much money at the hotel bar because the Vidanta resorts are not all-inclusive. I was pleasantly surprised with the low cost of the food at the resort as well as the quality of the food itself. We ended up eating at the resort more than we thought we were going to because the prices were so reasonable and the food was so delicious.  My personal favorite were the fish tacos at the Balche restaurant at the Grand Mayan.

There were some form of entertainment at the resort each night, including singing, dancing, and sometimes a comedy show. There is also a large spa that you can enjoy on your own or you can book massages and a variety of other treatments. I did think that the prices were a little more than some of the all-inclusive resorts I’ve stayed at such as the Hard Rock where they tend to give you discounted spa treatments.

The location of the resort is a little ways away from a lot of the activities in Acapulco so what you will have to do is get a driver to take you over a small mountain drive along the coast and then you will get to the main part of Acapulco. That is where you will find shopping, sunset cruises, incredible cliff diver performances, and all kinds of other great things.

Acapulco does have a reputation in the United States of being unsafe because there is a large cartel influence but we were told by many people that the cartel stays in the mountains and that they leave the tourists alone because they don’t want to hurt the economy. Additionally we met a lot of professionals from Mexico City who make the 4 hour drive down to Acapulco as a weekend or holiday getaway and they said that it is very safe and they always have a wonderful time. For the entire week that we were there we went out and about most days and we never felt unsafe. It is a place that I will definitely return to again.
